"This team ethic is the thing that really stands out for me..."

Before joining Accord I worked for ten years in the retail bank environment; but I was finding that whichever branch I worked in, it tended to be more of the same thing. I was after greater variety, and now I have that in my role with Accord.

I’m the link between all the parties in a case - the mortgage intermediary, solicitors, valuers and customers. I receive new mortgage applications, enter them onto the system, review the details and then request any additional support information if it’s needed. Every day is busy, but always interesting - I work on a pipeline of cases with many different people so keeping on top of everything is essential.

Everyone works in small teams of around ten, which creates a really good team spirit: we all look out for each other and make new people in the team feel welcome. This team ethic is the thing that really stands out for me, and I’ve made some really good friends in the years I’ve been here.

To be a Case Manager I’d say you need to be flexible, well-organised and able to quickly focus on the things that need to be done there and then. Collaborating and building relationships is also important, whether that’s with external contacts like mortgage intermediaries, solicitors and customers, or with your colleagues. At the start there was a lot of information to take in, but the training here is really thorough, and there’s always plenty of support.

Accord has a strong brand and a good reputation in the market place. As an employer, they’re open and supportive too. We’re growing very quickly, so it’s an exciting, forward-looking place to work. The fact that our offices are in the city centre is a bonus! There’s a good mix of age and experience, and everyone’s really positive and friendly. And if you do want to get on in this business or within the YBS Group as a whole, there are plenty of opportunities to develop your skills.
